Pomegranates
Fit for a Pharaoh...
Pomegranates are loved the world over for their sweet/tart tasting, ruby red, jewel-like seeds (arils), plentiful juice and excellent health benefits.
Sprinkle these succulent little juice sacs over salads for a sweet crunch surprise; use as garnish on rice dishes; scatter over waffles, pancakes and ice cream. Or use pomegranate extract in marinades, as a glaze for poultry
and with fish.

How to eat a pomegranate
Here’s a relatively mess free way of preparing a pomegranate. But please be warned, the juice can stain your clothes.
· Cut off the crown end of the pomegranate.
· Lightly score the outer skin from top to bottom.
· Immerse the fruit in a bowl of water and soak for 5 minutes.
· Hold the fruit under water and break the sections apart, removing the arils from the membrane.
· The arils will sink while the rind and membrane float, allowing you to skim off and discard.
· Drain the arils and eat!
Health benefits
Chock full with antioxidants, vitamins, potassium, folic acid and iron, pomegranates are yet another superfood; particularly good for keeping your heart healthy, and also helping control menopausal hot flushes.
Grenadine syrup
Made from pomegranates, Grenadine is a strong, blood red syrup used in many cocktails. Sample delicious cocktails containing grenadine in some Sharm cafés and restaurants, such as Style Café and Café Royal in Hadaba, and Cavallino in Il Mercato.
